Dear Jaclen,
as discussed in several soaring boards, all GNSS Flightrecorder equipped with the Garmin GPS 25 Receiver are affected by the 1024 week roll over issue. This will result in a wrong flight date recorded in the IGC file.
As no support has been offered by the GPS manufacturer, we figured out a solution to solve htis issue by updating the firmware. The final tests have been performed and we are ready to offer a suitable workaround:
What does this mean for you?
============================
In the present configuration, your Volkslogger is recording a wrong flight date, which results in a rejection of your flight by all online scoring contests, badges and world records.
A field repair is not possible. The unit needs to be sent in for repair to the factory or to an authorized service center.
Repair options:
==============
1.) GPS Firmware update, resealing, final test, NO further checks or repair.
Cost: 70,00 EUR + 19% VAT (VAT applies to EC countries only) + shipping fee
2.) GPS Firmware update, replacing the GPS internal rechargeable battery, resealing,
final test, NO further checks or repair.
Cost: 120,00 EUR + 19% VAT (VAT applies to EC countries only) + shipping fee
3.) GPS Firmware update, replacing the GPS internal rechargeable battery, resealing,
final test AND complete checks.
Cost: 120,00 EUR + 19% VAT (VAT applies to EC countries only) + shipping fee

If the GPS internal battery is almost, but not completely discharged, the GPS internal real time clock (RTC) resets the date to 01/01/00 while the GPS internal flash memory retains data. In this case the GPS internal CPU assumes the year 2000 and continues operating with the incorrect date as only in case of complete discharged battery all memory and settings in the GPS module are lost and the new installed reference date will be used.
Despite of GPS firmware update a wrong date will be recorded in this case.
** How can I check the status of the GPS internal RTC? **
After complete start of the device after powering up, press the upper key to enter the position page. Now, check the coordinates and GPS time shown here. If the coordinates are different than 39.00.000° N/95.00.000°W while the GPS time is 00:00 UTC, a wrong date will be recorded.
** How can I solve this problem? **
Leave the logger unconnected until the GPS internal memory is erased, this is indicated by the initial coordinates (39.00.000° N/119.00.000°W)
** How can I avoid this problem? **
In periods of non use, power up the unit every 4 weeks for 48h to charge the GPS internal battery to prevent loosing data in GPS internal flash and RTC.
